Subbuteo shop opens its doors after ‘two long months’

The world’s only Subbuteo shop opened its doors again today after months of lockdown.

Subbuteo Lab in Italy reopened after a gruelling couple of months under strict lockdown measures in Italy during the coronavirus outbreak – but there are some changes in store for those who want to shop.

Anybody heading to the Florence-based store will need to maintain strict social distancing measures including keeping two metres apart and the number of people actually allowed in will be limited.

A notice on the shop’s Facebook page said: “We are ready for the reopening of Monday 18/5. From 10,00 pm the doors open after over 2 very long months.

“The hours will be updated both on the website, both on Google and here on Facebook page.

“We are of course respecting the existing rules! I’ll wait for you!!!!”

The news will be welcomed by fans of Subbuteo in Italy and will provide hope here in the UK that we will be soon returning to normality once the threat of the pandemic is over.

In the UK the twice-yearly Subbuteo Fair in Renishaw was due to take place on Sunday 17 May but the first event of the year was cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

However, Subbuteo World, which runs the fair, says it is confident it will be able to hold the event in October depending on the coronavirus situation towards the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Subbuteo clubs across the country are still shut down during lockdown, with hopes a rise in prices and demand for Subbuteo figures in recent months will mean bumper attendances for Subbuteo shops, events and clubs once social distancing measures are listed.
