River Plate are one of the biggest teams in Argentina and enjoy an incredible cross-city rivalry with Buenos Aires-based Boca Juniors.
The club was the first in Argentina to get a Subbuteo team (ref 059) in heavyweight version. However, Subbuteo got the kit wrong and went for a white shirt with horizontal red stripe. You can find out more about the River Plate Subbuteo kit here.
A version with the famous red sash soon followed and the club was recreated in lightweight form in the late 1990s for reference number 794. The team is extremely rare and fetches up to £60 on eBay – a big number for a lightweight team.
