Review: Subbuteo Deluxe Rubber Backed pitch

The new Subbuteo Deluxe rubber backed pitch has arrived on table tops across the country and the first reviews of the £80 product are in.

And who better to check out the quality and playability of the pitch than Italian pitch experts at Astrobase, the maker of high quality pitches, goals and everything else table football.

Enrico at Astrobase has given his verdict on the pitch:

“We at ASTROBASE now have the new Subbuteo Deluxe pitch in stock, and I would like to give you my humble opinion about it.

“As I supposed, from the comments of those who had already seen it, the pitch is an item that I would define as suitable for children and families. Hence, the coherent continuation of Subbuteo’s marketing strategy, which started with the more durable rubber miniatures.

“The 2.1 kgs neoprene pitch, the exact twin of the Zeugo pitch, that’s been on the market for ten or more years. The new Deluxe pitch is not even remotely comparable to a rubber Astropitch or our Astrobase Astroturf. It finds its excellent use in being unrolled on a carpet or used on a kitchen table, for those who do not have space or do not need a higher quality pitch which requires to be pinned on a board.

“Compared to the Zeugo pitch, it has the eye-catching pattern of the striped print, which certainly makes it more beautiful to the eye, but the quality is the same.”

The review mirrors that of other people who have contacted Subbuteo.Online with their first thoughts. The pitch has been regularly described as heavy and well designed, meaning it can be quickly rolled out without any creases. That makes it ideal for younger players who want quick set up in the front room, or those who want a more mobile Subbuteo setup.

The pitch, according to our readers, is of a good quality and plays extremely fast, without the grip that some of the higher end astropitches use to slow the ball down in certain situations.

Overall reviews have been good but the biggest concern once again comes down to price.

Enrico says:

“We could sell it for 90.00 euro, which, financially speaking, could be a fair price, but this would mean that our Astropitch, given the difference in quality, should cost 120,00 euro (£ 100,00) or more. The release of this pitch cannot take the price of an Astropitch like ours out of the market, so ASTROBASE will offer it on the site at 75.00 euros (the Zeugo pitch is priced at 65.00 euros).

“It is the highest price in our pitches pricelist, and it is not motivated by quality but certainly by the name of the Brand we love, and by the fact that, as mentioned before, financially it has a significant purchase price.

“This is our opinion, clearly reported in the product description on Astrobase website also. I hope I have been useful to those who have never touched it. At the end of the day, it’s always a big emotion to see a Subbuteo original product coming out.”

Thanks to Enrico for his honest and fair views of the new pitch.
