Best Subbuteo deals of the week: Football Express and cheap Lionesses sets

In a new twice-weekly column we will be scouring the internet for the best Subbuteo bargains across a range of price points.

From auction sites, to eBay and Vinted, to Amazon and private sellers, we will be listing the most interesting Subbuteo buys and the best bargains.

This week we’re starting with a stunning indoor Subbuteo set from the 1970s, cheap modern sets at a bargain price and a couple of job lots to keep your eye on. Happy shopping!

Subbuteo Football Express

Football Express is one of the best Subbuteo box sets ever made. The five-a-side version of the game comes in a box that converts into a small-sided arena, allowing you to bounce the ball off the walls and line up plenty of trick shots.

The box set is also one of the more in-demand older sets. Launched in 1971, the set also led to five-a-side teams being produced by the brand. It costs anywhere between £50 and £150 based on recent eBay sales.

This set is available via an auction and the latest bid is just £40. There are also a handful of Subbuteo teams included and what look like incomplete five-a-side teams. Just be careful of that 25% auction tax and any courier charges you will need to get the set delivered.

England Lionesses set

The new Subbuteo sets are not really our favourite over at The Hobby. However, the Lionesses set is the best of them. Launched to celebrate England’s national women’s team it is a groundbreaking set. It is the first time any Subbuteo collector or player could buy an official women’s team.

The only downside was the hefty price tag – £47 was the RRP when it first arrived on shelves. Now a few years later Amazon has cut the price of the set to just £30. It’s a real bargain.

Subbuteo job lot of 21 teams

There is nothing particularly unique or rare in this hefty job lot of heavyweight teams but they all look in excellent condition. There is a nice Peru, a Newport and even a couple of standard lightweight teams in the lot.

The job lot is an excellent starter job lot for somebody who is just beginning to collect. You can buy a lot of the more common teams in one go and while there is still six days left of the auction it’s currently sat on £5.99. Bookmark it and see if you can get it for a steal at a later date.

Subbuteo grandstand job lot

You can expect to pay around £30 a Subbuteo grandstand in decent condition and with its cardboard box. This can rise to £50 on eBay where bidding is usually quite lively as people bid to complete their stadium setups.

The job lot is not amazing. You get one full stand, plus three red and blue parts and a broken tan and green grandstand. However, the current price of £32 is not bad and if it stays below £50 you’re getting a bargain. The parts are ideal for stadium building and as some are already broken you can get creative with them to build the stadium of your dreams.
