Mbappe and Pogba to star on new French football Subbuteo set

Global football superstars Kylian Mbappe, Paul Pogba and Antione Griezmann will be the cover stars of a new French international Subbuteo box set.

The international trio, along with Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and Real Madrid defender Rafael Varane, will feature on a new edition of the table top football game dedicated entirely to the World Champions.

The box set is one of two official new launches for Subbuteo in France after the brand signed a deal with the French national team and club side Marseille to create two new box sets that will go on sale in the next few months.

The new French box set with feature the dark blue kit of the national side complete with badge detail and different player hair styles and boots colours, as well as player numbers to identify the team’s stars. A second unbranded team will also be included. The Marseille box set will feature a Marseille team and an unbranded team.

Subbuteo’s French box set launch is the latest in a string of new box sets by Subbuteo. Last year an official England set was launched and it has been followed by an England Lionesses set – the first time women’s football teams have been sold in Subbuteo form.

The Subbuteo brand has a long history of launching dedicated sets for the French market. In its hey day French toy company Delacoste held the Subbuteo license in France, launching a series of teams from the French leagues for the local market. These were often placed in unique Delacoste boxes and, unusually for Subbuteo teams, came with a glossy paint job.

Subbuteo license holders Longshore has not confirmed when the new sets will go on sale, or if they will be available to UK buyers. They are expected to arrive before the Euros in the summer, where France will once again be one of the favourites to take the title.
