First look at the new Subbuteo women’s players

A new England Lionesses Subbuteo set will be the first time a women’s team has been on sale for UK buyers.

The set was announced via a University Games catalogue as revealed by Subbuteo.Online last week.

The launch date is set to take place in April but apart from a picture of the box set, potential buyers have not been able to get a look at the players themselves.

The strange scattered cross-Europe launch of Subbuteo via a network of importers means checking other markets often gives us a closer look at new launches when they are not available in the UK.

A Portuguese website has two new women’s teams listed – the Portugal women’s home and away team – and the images show a first look at the new women players.

At first glance the players do not look great. The cartoonish style of the new men’s teams is replicated for the women’s players and as such, they don’t look drastically different. The level of detail is quite low but the sets do have different colour hair to differentiate them.

The new women’s sets are likely to inspire new players to come to the game but the low quality may mean traditional Subbuteo players are likely to give them a wide berth.
