Welcome to another roundup of interesting Subbuteo for sale this week. A semi-regular blog where we trawl the internet for any signs of a Subbuteo bargain.
We start with a visit to Wessex, or more specifically Chippenham, where an auction takes place on Friday with no less than eight Subbuteo lots up for grabs. As ever with auctions there is an opportunity to grab a bargain but just be wary of those auction fees that can be up to a third of the cost of the lot.
Ignoring the Continental Club Edition that comes complete with definitely haunted Victorian doll, the other seven lots are of moderate interest. There is a nice-looking Football Express five-a-side set with a couple of teams with an estimate of just £15-£25, a cricket set, and a couple of heavyweight team job lots including one featuring some rarer rugby sides.
You will have to sign up early to be able to bid on the auction and you can see the job lots here.
Over four years ago I was contacted by a seller who had what he thinks is a Subbuteo one-off. You have probably heard of Subbuteo Journey to Space but there was a second space-themed game dreamed up by Peter Adolf and the Subbuteo team.
It was called Subbuteo Space Craft to the Moon and according to the seller he has been having a few problems with buyers not stumping up the cash when it goes to auction. There is another chance for a buyer this month as the set is listed again, this time for a hefty price of £1,700.
I really do love a bit of weird Subbuteo.
Let’s move on to eBay, where there is a fun little affordable job lot of 88 Subbuteo balls. I love a Subbuteo ball and this is a nice collection, featuring the lesser-spotted Ariva balls used in the NASL box set, plus the usual selection of Tangos, Diadora and Umbro balls that any self-respecting collector should love to fondle lovingly. At just over a tenner currently it’s a nice little buy for somebody. You can see it here.
Other eBay highlights include this nice job lot of 25 teams that’s already up to £82 with a couple of days left. I will always share a job lot with a lovely little Asics Norwich side in there.
Meanwhile, those of you with £3,800 to spend can buy an entire set of Subbuteo Royal Doulton figures. It’s a rare but expensive chance to own one of Subbuteo’s stranger products and I’m sure there will be takers even at that price.
And finally. It may not be Subbuteo but I love that you can still buy Football League ladders. I spotted these on Etsy and I’ve ordered a couple. A fantastic bit of nostalgia.
