Adidas launches another Subbuteo trainer in classic green

Just days after launching the Handball Spezials trainers complete with Subbuteo player design, Adidas has launched a second pair.

The Adidas Originals Munchen are on sale at JD Sports for £75 and this time the Subbuteo-themed footwear are decked out in the traditional green of a Subbuteo box.

The trainers actually have little to do with Subbuteo apart from the Subbuteo player design on the inside but they are sure to be a hit with collectors.

The players themselves are wearing something close to a Celtic or Yeovil kit – reference 025 for Subbuteo fans.

The green colour and mention of Munchen are all subtle ties to Subbuteo. Munchen, or Munich, is the name given to one of Subbuteo’s most iconic box sets and the venue for the 1974 Subbuteo World Cup – one of the biggest Subbuteo tournaments in history.

The trainers at £75 are not cheap and while many Subbuteo fans bought the Spezials last week many will be dipping into their pockets again to buy the latest Subbuteo design.

You can buy them here.

Of course, Adidas did once launch a dedicated Subbuteo Trimm Trab trainer complete in Subbuteo green and with a pitch-style pattern. The trainers also included a box of three Adidas Subbuteo balls which came in their own packet. The trainers regularly fetch triple figures on eBay from both Subbuteo and Adidas trainers collectors.
